No Sound MythTV, TvTime, Xawtv, etc. in Fedora 6

I have read many threads on this issue and I cannot seem to resolve it . . . hence the new thread. Here is what is going on:

I do not get sound from MythTV, TvTime, Xawtv, Kaffeine, etc. when viewing TV. In MythTV specifically, I can watch videos (MPEGs) and listen to music (MP3, OGG, etc.) with sound just fine. When viewing TV - no sound. Same goes for the other TV viewing programs like TVtime and Xawtv. The video is pretty good, but no sound. I can also hear sound when I play music through other multimedia players such as xmms, etc.

I started with a Hauppauge TV tuner card - pretty old, maybe a couple years that ran off the 848 chipset series (I believe) - bttv. This card had an audio out, which I used to connect a cord to an audio in port on my motherboard. My motherboard was the latest nForce board for AMD in 2005 - I think it is an nForce4. I think (and this is only a guess) that the sound went bad after I installed the advanced nVidia drivers to do some 3D gaming through wine. Unable to get sound working, I bought a new TV tuner card - Pinnacle HDTV Pro Stick - and the sound initially worked pretty well (some scratching) after I finally got the v4l-vbd drivers working. Upon the next restart - no sound. My suspicion is that the ALSA drivers do not load both the nVidia sound and the sound from either the TV tuner cards.

My system is completely updated through yum. Here are the rest of my system specifications:

OS: Fedora Core 6_x64
Processor: AMD 64
Kernel Version: 2.6.20-1.2933.fc6

Audio configuration:
nVidia Module: snd-intel8x0
Em28xx Audio Module: em28xx-audio

ALSA driver: 1.0.14

I'm not really sure where to go from here or what other information will be helpful. I have done a lot of tinkering with the MythTV settings - but I think the problem is external to the program (because TVtime and xawtv both do not work). If more info is needed please let me know and I will post. I am fairly new so please post the commands.

I hate Microsoft based systems and would hate to go back. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

This is a follow up on my previous post:

I reconfigured to use my Huappauge bt878 card. The bt878 card has a line out (which is used as an "output" that connects to the "line in" on my sound card. Then the output goes to my speakers.

I bypassed the "output" / "line in" step to try and isolate my problem. My speakers are directly connected to the "output" on the Hauppauge bt878 card. This way I know if I am even getting any output from the capture card.

tvtime:
In this setup I can play and hear live tv perfectly fine. Does anyone know how to access the tvtime settings? If I could check to see what device tvtime is outputting audio to . . . then I could probably properly configure mythtv.

MythTV:
Same result as before. No sound from the output. Since tvtime works perfectly well, I'm guessing that I am reading the devices wrong somehow.

Here is my sound card setup:

0 nVidia Corporation CK804 AC'97 Audio Controller
1 PNPb006 PNPb006
2 Empia Em28xx Audio
3 Brooktree Bt878

In MythTV I have the option of selecting from:

Audio output device:
/dev/dsp
/dev/dsp2
/dev/dsp3
/dev/adsp
/dev/adsp3

Mixer Device:
/dev/mixer
/dev/mixer1
/dev/mixer2
/dev/mixer3

I'm assuming that the numeral at the end of each Audio and Mixer device corresponds to the number in my sound card detection setup?? So I would think that if I want to get sound output from my bt878 card (3 Brooktree Bt878) I would just set everything to: "/dev/dsp3" and "/dev/mixer3" - but this does not work.

I'm running Fedora Core 6
MB: Asus A8N-SLI (nForce4)
Audio: Realtek ALC850 8-Channel CODEC

Any ideas?
