No root access, wrong permissions

Hi

I copied a custom system image (RH9) for someone and burned it on CD for them. They then did an install from that back onto their harddrive.

Now, he can't log in as root, and directories like /var, /tmp and others don't work right.

For example, he's getting errors like:
"cannot create lock file in /tmp/.tX0.lock" when attempting to start X,

"session setup problem: abort" or
"cannot set groups: operation not permitted" when attempting to login as root,

"/dev/null not writeable" among other errors.

The hardware on our systems is the same. Identically. Can anyone suggest what might have gone wrong? I'm at a loss other than to try to create another CD image for him and let him try again.

Thanks in advance.

Ron

Verify the CD's by typing
md5sum /mnt/cdrom
after a while it'll output a number that has to correspond to the one below (you can also insert the filename as a param, however I forgot the syntax)
Just do that for all 3 CD's, if the numbers are right the CD's are OK

I'm not really sure what your response has to do with my question other than perhaps using md5sum to verify my CD copy. I'm not doing anything with the RH9 installation ISOs so I'm not sure why you posted that stuff.
