No package 'libxml-2.0' found

Hi.

Trying to install a software from sources, I get this error message when configure:

Code:
checking pkg-config is at least version 0.15... yes
checking for LIBXML2... configure: error: Package requirements (libxml-2.0) were not met:

No package 'libxml-2.0' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables LIBXML2_CFLAGS
and LIBXML2_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

This is what I tried, but getting always the same error message:

Code:
[]# pkg-config --version
0.21

[]# whereis pkgconfig
pkgconfig: /usr/lib/pkgconfig /usr/share/pkgconfig

[]# PKG_CONFIG=/usr/bin/pkg-config
[]# export PKG_CONFIG
[]# PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/lib/pkgconfig
[]# export PKG_CONFIG_PATH

[]# rpm -q libxml2
libxml2-2.6.26-2.1.2.1
I included also these two lines in '/etc/ld.so.conf' and run 'ldconfig' before './configure':
------
/usr/lib
/usr/lib/pkgconfig
-------

Any suggestion? Thank you very much.

You need to install libxml2-devel (or libxml2-dev on some distros) using your distributions package manager.

Talking Thanks Reddazz

Thanks Reddazz! I had this same problem. I knew libxml2 was on my system. I check $PATH to make sure everything was correct there. I created PKG_CONFIG_PATH... but still no luck. I was pulling my hair out! Then I found your post - THANK YOU!
