no hdlists found

Hello,

I quit new in linux and I try to install mandrake 8.0 on an AMD PC, 256Mo RAM, 40Go DD.

I read a lot about how to install it and also in thos new groups without a clear respond.

I tried a lot of things with Win 98se, win xp installed, nothing with the same error.

Let's tell you my last try:

I do have win98se installed with a partition of 7,4 Go (sector 0-978).
I boot on the Mandrake CD.

Select the language and son on, select expert mode (I tried also with recommended). Select low security.

A comes up the partition.
I choose default (or auto partition-simple).
I tried also manual:
hda5 type83 '/' mounting point 690Mo (sector 979-1066)
hda7 type82 'swap' 250Mo (sector 1067-1098)
hda8 type83 '/user' mounting point 2,7Go (sector 1099-1455)
hda6 type83 '/home' mounting point 10Go (sector 1456-2835)
free space 21Go (sector 2836-5605)

I can format those partitions
I can mount them
Only '/' I cannot mount error :"Mount failed: no such file or directory"

I try to install the default pakages (I tried few of them or all of them too)
All the stars on the left I pass thru are green.

Then I get the error message:
"Failure on CDrom drive or CDrom itself, please check by using cmd: rpm -qpl Mandrake/RPMS/*.rpm"
I press ok
And then this message:
"Failure: no hdlists found". and it sends me back to the partitions.
I click "done"
and again this error message "Failure: no hdlists found"

I click on end of install, reboot the machine.

And all the mounting point ('/', '/user', '/home') are lost.

These CD have been used on an other machine, and worked well.

I this this CD's that are corrupted?
How can I solve this?

No hdlists found, ouch.
I have gotten this error installing Mandrake 8.0 & 8.1.
The error comes up whenever it feel's like it ie you could install no problem & then try a fresh install on the same machine using the same Cd & then get that error.
When I do get that error I usually have to start the install from scratch & pray the error dosent come up & I might finish the install on the 5th attempt.
No idea what causes it though

new tries

I've tried again and again from scratch.

I've remove 128Mo Ram, to leave only 128.
I've removed the CD burner, to leave only one CD drive on the IDE port.
I've tried to install everything, and I've tried to install nothing from the pakages list.

No way.
I still have this fucking, and boring message:

No hdlists found !!!

I am downloading the version 8.1, I hope it can help on something.

I got that error when i installed Mandrake 8.2 Beta1 but when i got the Beta 2 the hdlists error went away. I never gotten the error in Mandrake 8.1 so give that a try! good luck

install 8.1

I finally dowloaded the version 8.1, and I installed it yesterday.

It finally works !!!

I do not understand why the version 8.0 didn't, may be the CD rom has some problems...

Anyway, I need to install all these drivers. I am look for these HOW-TO.

Thanks anyway for your posts
