the nm-applet in my gnome DE on debian testing shows that i have no network connection. I have a network connection, i set it up in /etc/network/interfaces, but since some of my apps look to it to see if there is a connection.. it is causing some trouble.
If i open it where it says edit connections, i have a box that shows the connections, but i cannot edit them, they are disabled. i can't even do it as root
Network manager will report no connection if you have manually configured your Networtk interface using /etc/network/interfaces file.
Best thing to do imho is remove Network-manager .. it's not like you really need it for anything if you are using a static Address. Aptitude purge network-manager network-manager-gnome
