Hi,
I've had the same error when I try to access an NFS mount. The error happens when the following situation occurs:
A workstation machines is mounting, via the automounter, a central storage Raid. The Raid goes down while the machine still has it mounted. When the Raid comes back up the workstation gives the error 'Stale NFS mount' whenever I try to access the mount point.
I understand that this is a reasonible error, but is there a way to fix this error without rebooting the machine? I've tried restarting the automounter and that didn't change anything. So far, only rebooting has fixed the problem, but, on the plus side rebooting the workstation has worked every time. Thanks.
no it is no longer mounted or responding i just cant seem to delete it the directory has no hidden characters or anything like that to its name it is simply called "master"thanks nige
ok may i ask another nfs question please? i can see all the the files on another computer i have complete read and write access to them. Why can i not see a cd which is mounted on the other system i get the message "no medium found" when i try to mount the cdrom.
Thanks nige
What this means is that the file system has become physically detached, even though it is still mounted. What you need to do is unmount the file system, make sure that the physical connection is good, then remount it.
About your CD question, is the CD mounted on your system? Run the mount command to make sure

first mount the cd locally.. then if your sharing the directory over NFS, you might be able to see the contents of the cd. But you can't mount remote cdroms on other systems thru NFS, as far as I know at least.. never even dawned on me to try it, never saw a reason..
