NFS and Samba shares not working on MDK10, kernel 2.6.6 server
(My browser has been acting funny, so this is about the third time I've tried to post this; sorry if it comes up more than once!)
Hello everybody.
Problem:
I have two computers networked over a cross-over cable. I'll call one of them "Orchestrator" and the other one "Stallion." They are set to static IPs (192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.254 respectively), and are both running Samba and NFS servers. I am able to use both NFS and Samba to share files and folders that are on Orchestrator, but I can't share anything that's on Stallion. When I try to get into Stallion over LinNeighborhood or Gnomba I am able to see the workgroup and the the computer's name (Mdkgroup/Stallion), but when I try to open it, it prompts me for a name and password. No matter what I enter into the login and password boxes, it just pops them up again without giving me any access or showing anything new. When I try to mount something that Stallion is (supposed to be) sharing onto Orchestrator (using the command "mount 192.168.0.254:/share/name /mount/point/"), it takes a REALLY long time to complete the command, and them gives me a "timed-out" error. I have disabled the firewall on Stallion, and used SWAT to configure Samba with "guest" priviledges, both globally and per-share. I have set the security to "share" instead of "user" without effect. My NFS /etc/exports entries (on both machines) all take the form of "/share/name/ *(ro,sync)". Below is some more detailed configuration info.
Configuration:
"Orchestrator": IP 192.168.0.1, Intel P4 2GHz, 1GB RAM, Mandrake 10 Official, kernel 2.6.6, CNET PRO200 NIC, GNOME.
"Stallion": IP 192.168.0.254, Intel PIII 500MHz, 256MB RAM, Mandrake 10 Official, kernel 2.6.6, 3C905B NIC, GNOME.
Software: identical Network Server packages installed (everything but Squid). Orchestrator has basically all the FTP/HTTP/etc. software that comes with the distribution in addition to that.
I will appreciate any help you can give me very much.
Thanks.
