New to Mandrake probs getting things set up

I have mandrake 10 installed on my system but seem to be having some slight trouble with final bits to the set up.

When the system boots im presented with a boot menu with something like

linux
linux nonfb
m263-4
plus some other options

when i did the original install i selected usb 3 button mouse with wheel emulation (I have a ms optical wheel mouse usb), when it restarted i selected the linux option from the above list. When it started up though the mouse wasnt working just the pointer in the centre of the screen.

I restarted and this time picked the m263-4 option during the boot is removed the paux mouse driver and i ran the config tool and selected the universal one. This made the mouse work but in the m263-4 option i cant seem to get my display to function correctly, and the universal one doesnt appear in config tool when i choose linux.

I am also running mandrake via vmware.

could any one please offer me any assistance

Cheers

Echo

m263-4 is your new kernel.

It's listed low because you haven't defined it as default:
You see 'default' is filled out with the label text below.
The text Kernel_2.6.3-4 was my own. You can write any goofy text you want using basic characters.

/etc/lilo.conf

boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
default="Kernel_2.6.3-4"
keytable=/boot/dk-latin1.klt
prompt
nowarn
timeout=100
message=/boot/message
menu-scheme=wb:bw:wb:bw
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.3-4mdk
label="Kernel_2.6.3-4"

After making changes to lilo.conf you have to execute: /sbin/lilo

But that is only cosmetics.

It looks like it's the configuring of X that isn't good.

If you can enter Mandrake Control Center, reconfigure the mouse under Configureing X-windows or something like that,

You can alternatively configure x from the command line xf86config.

After some changes you get to test the result and if it looks abnormal you just keep working on it.

You're in for some real fun here... :-)
