I do believe this has been discussed and the general consensus and easy answer is no.

HOWEVER, in a last ditch thought, I was thinking you *could* dial up to such a service from a win box, then, via a 10/100 Ethernet connect the 2 boxes...

This is the reverse of the ideal network, however it would allow you to NOT have that annoying banner you get with your free internet

Cool

If your paying for the service, you probably can. If your using their free software, most likely not as they require the software to be running which AFAIK is only currently available for Windows Machines.

I mostly just wanted to test my modem driver and make sure it works. Doing it on a free service seemed like the best option, although I have an account on my dad's aol too, but pengaol is giving me a hard time.

Ah test by dialing anyways, if you get an answer then it fails cause it can't login, most likely your modem driver is a workin..
