Networking Problem in Mepis...Help from Mepis 3.4.3 users..Please

Hi! I've just installed Mepis 3.4.3. I am having difficulty installing my two ethernet cards. My eth0 is set at static IP provided by my ISP. My eth1 is also a static IP connected to the lan network. I have configured both the IP addresses of the two ethernet cards. My problem is that my eth0 works fine before entering the KDE. I ping my gateway and www.yahoo.com and responded well. When the KDE starts, the eth0 can no longer ping any site. The eth1 is still working though but I need eth0 to work. Another thing, is there a bug in the network option in the synaptic? I manually input the IP address of our proxy server but everytime I reload synaptic it seems that its not using the proxy and cannot update the list of packages.. I really love Mepis and I want to make the networking work. I don't want to go back to Ubuntu anymore since I am having difficulty in configuring the smb and cups. Here's the error I got from syslog:

Any idea what is this all about?

What do your routes look like? Having 2 gateways often confuses everything.

Here is one of my computers running 2 network cards, 1 to the internet, and 1 to the lan.

root@server996:~# ip route
192.168.1.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.5
65.31.80.0/20 dev eth2 proto kernel scope link src -InternetIP-
127.0.0.0/8 dev lo scope link
default via 65.31.80.1 dev eth2

root@server996:~# ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:02:B3:33:15:A7
inet addr:192.168.1.5 Bcast:192.168.12.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:251002 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:1401122 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:6
collisions:285954 txqueuelen:1000
Interrupt:5

eth2 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:02:B3:63:AD:F7
inet addr:-InternetIP- Bcast:255.255.255.255 Mask:255.255.240.0
UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:10661841 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:170379 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
Interrupt:5

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
RX packets:111045 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:111045 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0

When I staticly setup eth0 (lan) I didn't include the gateway, and eth2 is set through DHCP, which includes the gateway. This way any traffic on 192.168.1.whatever goes out eth0 and everything else goes out the internet interface.

Okay. Here's my entry. Since both connections are set to static:

DNS:
202.47.132.6
202.47.132.9

eth0

IP 61.9.10.100
Netmask: 255.255.255.248
Gateway 61.9.10.97
Broadcast: 0.0.0.0 (I am not sure on this but it worked fine on Mepis 3.3)

eth1
IP 192.168.0.201
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 0.0.0.0 (since I am not setting a gateway for the LAN connection anymore)
Broadcast: 0.0.0.0 (also not sure on this)

What I noticed that after it boots up, I can still ping www.yahoo.com and the 61.9.10.97 gatewat and after some time (30 secs) the eth0 is no longer working. I just don't know why is this happening.
