network-manager-gnome not providing nm-applet?

Please have patience, I'm still fairly new to Linux.
After a lot of research(this site helping a lot), I finally got my Belkin USB WiFi adapter working. However, I need a GUI that lists available networks. After installing network-manager-gnome(I've had to download packages from debian.org on a separate computer), like several guides have mentioned, I found that nm-applet wasn't installed with it. Is it possible I'm just missing something?

Hi winkybeak, Welcome to LQ. Which distribution and version have you installed? Is there any reason you can't install the software from the installation media rather than downloading and transferring?

Good luck. ;-)

Ah, I knew I forgot something! I have a recent installation of Debian 5.0.5. I wasn't using the install disk because the network manager package wasn't showing up as included, but I was a little distracted when trying earlier.

I've heard good things about Mint, but I'm worried I won't be able to get my adapter working again. I haven't done anything aside from that, so there's no loss in installing Mint over Debian. Does anyone know if it includes a network manager GUI?

It's based on Ubuntu, but comes in several different flavors. I'd expect to see the same networkmanager as available in Ubuntu in the base distribution and the requisite gui network manager for each of the environments.

Good luck. ;-)
