Network File System (NFS)


hi all

how to install and configure NFS on linux machine?

we aren't here to recite documentation for you, but for starters NFS is installed by default on 99.9% of linux systems, it's just there waiting. only file you should need to look at in /etc/exports and it's associated manpage.

hi all
i am very sorry to all of you....

i have configure nfs on both server and clint side and on both sides NFS is runing.when i typed this command as root

mount x.x.x.x:/home /mnt/nfs
the folwing error generatd

mount: RPC: Timed out

any one there who can help me please

sounds like you're firewalled, or you don't have portmap running.

this shows that portmap is runing

but tell me how can i find out firewall and how can i disable firewall

i have solved this problem by stoping iptables at client side....

/etc/init.d/iptables stop

not a good solution really, but nfs is by default hard to firewall as it dymanically changes ports. you can control what ports it uses to keep a good firewall in place. for redhat and derivatives, try this... www.hccfl.edu/pollock/AUnix2/NFSDemo.htm
