network configuration


Hi I have installed Gentoo system on mine computer and I tryin to emrge some files but it not working something wrong with net configuration. I have configuret /etc/conf.d/net already but I did'n found place for name servers where I must put them?

Hi there! dont know in gentoo, but its normally a file called resolv.conf

can you ping your gateway? can u ping ip addresses outside of your network?

when I'm pingin mine gw it says that network is unreacheble and when I ping outside mine net it says host could not be found

ok, so the resolv.conf is not the problem yet. You should be able to ping your gateway, and you shouldnt need to resolve names when you try to ping outside (try pinging a IP address outside of your network, not with the host name).

did you configure your network via dhcp or static? post the /etc/network/interfaces file

yep here it is. I was to lazy to copy all setting what is available but I've marked all which I use.

iface_eth0="157.24.115.160 broadcast 157.24.115.255 netmask 255.255.255.0"
gateway="eth0/157.24.115.1"
--------------------------------------------------

..and I usin LAN connection if it helps.
