Netscape 7 install
I have download netscape 7 and saved it in the documents sections of my home directory. I have gone into the shell and got the netscape 7 installer to come up. When it asks me where I want to save I put in the usr/local/netscape, netscape installer can't create the directory though. I tried to go into root and there I went to try to download netscape 7 so I could just install in root but mandrake has left root pretty bare, there are no icons on the desktop and I can't find a browser to download with. Do I have to be in as root to install a program. Can I just be in my normal user and be able to have the root power to allow netscape to install? If I have to install in root how do I get into my normal users home?

If you type 'su' then your root password when prompted you should be able to access the installer in the same way you have already tried as regular user. If you already have the file downloaded you should not need to redownload it as root.
Good Luck.

Even though root's desktop is a bit bare, you should be able to Run... commands from the K menu.
Also, why not just copy the file from the user's home documents folder instead of re-downloading?

Just a little question here. If I want to put I link to Netscape how woud I do that. I've right clicked on the desktop and I have gone into new and then link to app. From there I'm lost. It says under general that the type is a desktop config file.

So you have gotten to the link to application screen.
The first screen type in what you want the Shortcut named
Then click on the executable tab, under this tab you would type in:
/usr/local/netscape/netscape
That's it hit OK.
