Hi folks. i recently installed gentoo earlier today from the 2005.0 cd (universal cd). yes, i am a noob please don't hold it against me. at the moment i cannot figure out how to get a desktop environment installed. can anyone tell me how to install (emerge) from the cd? please be specific as i am quite new to this. thank you in advance.
also, i will have to install ndiswrapper before i can have an internet connection so i suppose this limits my options. in order to install using software from the net, i will have to save it using another maching onto an external harddrive (although, i havent figured out how to mount it since i can't figure out how to set it up in the fstab. any help would be appreciated.
Some poeple are on networks with other people(like me) and those other people complain about their internet being slow. Now here is a question, how can you download the packages with a bandwidth limit, e.g.: let's say my bandwidth is 25KB per sec. but I want to limit it to 15KB/s, how would I do that?
i have yet to see anything on installing a wm in their documentation. i understand that it has to be there somewhere. it wasn't in the portion of the handbook that i followed in order to accomplish the install.
i have only a wireless card on that particular laptop. the onboard nic burned out a long time ago and i can't locate my pcmcia dongle either. i will look at the packages cd and see if there is something there i can use. before i rebooted after the initial installation i typed "emerge enlightenment" and that ran for three hours but no dice.
