Need to build cross compiler tool chain

Hi group,

I have downloaded the source for an embedded Linux system but no tool chain. I want/need a tool chain to rebuild the system image. Can anyone point me to a 'How to' for building the environment?

Thanks for you time.

ps it is an ARM9 system.

Hi, why don't you build a linux system. You will know everything about toolchain and making a complete system etc. go to www.distrowatch.com and download the latest LFS (Linux from scratch). It's a book which tells you how to build a linux system.

I need to use the source that my vendor is using to keep the changes to a minimum. All I want to do is add somethings to the build, like OpenSSL, SFTP, SSH, etc. Also add ALSA and USB device support. I need to test it first using qemu before I brick the unit.

The usually suggested toolchain is : "crosstool-ng"

http://ymorin.is-a-geek.org/dokuwiki/projects/crosstool

http://ymorin.is-a-geek.org/download...-1.8.1.tar.bz2
= The latest update : 24 - August - 2010.

"crosstool-ng" : Is maintained. Most other tool chains are not.
