need some recommendings here..

im sick and tired of rox as file manager, i can use the term, but i rather use a graphical file manager instead, so, i need you guys to recommend me some good easy-use file managers.. i run Gentoo 2005.1 for the record.

links, tips, everything will be good

Well, there is the gentoo file manager since you're running gentoo which has no affiliation with the distro itself! Is lightweight, fast, and looks quite nice. What is it about rox you're not happy with, just out of interest?

i love nautilus !
if you dig kde , konqueror is hard to beat.

both require the gnome or kde libraries respectivly though and are a bit more resource intensive than rox. rox is really lightweight.

xfce4 has its own file manager, its a lot like rox though.

if these dont appeal to you, check out freshmeat.net

really lightweight minded folks like gentoo. (not the distro, the file manager)

let us know

fouldsy: thank you for the tip! =)
i just thinks that rox is to simple, i got really mad at the begining when i first started to use it, it cant open files in text editors, it resizes the window. overall i dont like it :P

Okay, well check out some of nepish's ideas then. You can set your file associations manually under rox quite easily though, and under Options | Filter Windows can tell it to never resize windows, etc. It's just different than other file managers, but once you configure it a bit is quite good IMHO. Try some others though and have fun!

you can use the 'set run action' to open txt files in a text editor under rox.
you just right clik on a file of that type and choose gedit or kwrite or whatever you want.
also works with other file types.
