Need Kernel Module list!

Here is the thing, I have gentoo so I booted with the gentoo livecd and did lsmod and got a list of the modules that I would need, and afterwards I booted in to my gentoo-kernel-r8 and got the module name for the sound card I needed. When I did make xconfig for my kernel 2.6test9 I had to heilight every single option to get its module name. Is there an easier way to get the name?

HELP, I am going crazy here. Here is a list of my modules:
ppp_synctty
ppp-async
ppp_generic
slhc
3c59x
8139too
mii
ohci1394
ieee1394
floppy
parport_pc
parport
usbstorage
hid
ohci_hdc
Uhci_hcd
ehci_hcd
usbcore
cs46xx
soundcore
ac97_codec
serial
ISA_pnp
lp

In this case your soundcard is likely
to be the cs46xx :}

To find what what is, try cool things
like:
Code:
cd /usr/src/<your kernel source>
grep -i cs46xx Documentation/Configure.help
You'll find that this returns no results.
Well, the xx in the name suggests it's a
placeholder ... let's try without them

Code:
cd /usr/src/<your kernel source>
grep -i cs46 Documentation/Configure.help
CONFIG_INPUT_CS461X
  Say Y here if you have a Cirrus CS461x aka "Crystal SoundFusion"
  PCI audio accelerator. A product page for the CS4614 is at
  The module will be called cs461x.o. If you want to compile it as a
Yay ... looks like a soundcard to me! :)

Cheers,
Tink

One way to find modules:

grep CS46 /usr/src/linux-2.6.0-test9/arch/i386/defconfig
# CONFIG_SND_CS46XX is not set

This tells me that it uses the alsa snd-cs46xx module and that by default it will not be set.
When looking for modules in the config file they will be in UPPERCASE.

grep VFAT /usr/src/linux-2.6.0-test9/arch/i386/defconfig
CONFIG_VFAT_FS=y
So by default the kernel will have vfat built into it.

Want to know what all the 2.6.0 defaults are?

$ grep "\=[my]" /usr/src/linux-2.6.0-test9/arch/i386/defconfig
