Need Help with SuSE 8.2 and DHCP!!

During installation it finds my Ethernet card eth0, I set it for DHCP and it will not get an address..

After I finished installation I go back into the Control and edit the eth0 options. It gets All the required info but when I hit Next to save it ... It just resets the DHCP to blanks and puts me right back to the same screen.

RedHat and Mandrake had 0 issues with DHCP.

thanks in advance

I thoght DHCP means you get an IP assigned to you from the server. Are you connecting to anther linux server via this eth0?

DHCP does mean you recieve an IP addy from the server...

The system settings are not saving when I set it for DHCP but ifconfig shows that I have an IP. I can ping out but Knoqueror will not run as a browser with my Proxy server Auto file.

I think I might have figured out a little bit of it.

There was a setting I saw in KDE Controls Center that said Allow network proxy settings for root. As soon as I set that I got connected.

I logged on to my alt standard user login and it worked.

Now I still cant get Konqueror to configure for my proxy server settings but I am using Mozilla with no issues.

Under Konquerer Tools > Configure Konquerer then scrool to the bottom the is a "Proxy" tab to set your setting there.

Ummm ya

I have done that.. However.. Konq does not have an exact setting for AUTOPROXY settings.

Or atleast it doesn't work.

Just like IE6 where you can specify the proxy server then there is a space to specify the Port..

Then at the bottom you can select autoproxy configuration..

Well I need an Autoproxy configuration for KONQ..

When I put my autoproxy.corp.xxx.com:8080 into the Konq proxy settings it does nothing.

I have all other browsers working with the proxy settings for Autoproxy but not Konq.

I have exactly the same problem with SuSE (8.2 and now 9.0).

My sysdadmin only supports Windoze users, and gives http://autoproxy.city.ac.uk as my proxy address. This is a script which you can download with either "lynx -dump <address>" or with "wget" and examine.

The script checks if the page you request is local or not (ie should it be served directly) and if not, then sends you to one of several 'real' proxy servers eg wwwcache2.city.ac.uk:8080 .

Mozilla works fine but neither YAST, Konq, or anything else will connect, as only Mozilla with it's Netscape heritage has any inclination to recognise an autoproxy.pac file.

Nobody has given me any useful information and I have been stuck with this problem for 8 weeks. Surely there is an answer?
