Need help with Sound Servers

I've been using ESD because it was the default with my RedHat 7.3 install, but I'm tired of it. Sometimes it doesn't start right, and it only allows one connection (ie: one program to use audio at a time). Due to this I want to switch Sound Servers but I'm not sure what to try. I considered switching to KDE's ArtsD, but it skips if there's a high processor load, or if I launch applications. Currently I'm using a C-Media onboard card on my Soyo Dragonplus motherboard (5 channel, digital).

Can anyone recommend a good sound server that can allow multiple applications to use sound, and has a low memory overhead? If possible could you also link to relevant information regarding how to install it?

Thanks (I know I've been asking a lot lately)

Hi Null

I really have no answer for you, but have you thought about not using a sound server? I don't think I do on Slack, I think my programs just access the /dev/dsp directly.

Heck, it's something

Cool

Hrmm, I didn't think of that actually. Maybe I'll give it a try, although wouldn't it limit connections?

Also no clue how to make something like XMMS use it (it's not in the output listing, perhaps I'll look for a plugin)
