View Poll Results: Is dvd::rip the preferred way to go?
I installed Fedora Core 3 + dvdrip not too long ago and noticed after ripping to vob, I couldn't transcode to AVI / divx anymore.
Using Dag and FreshRPMs before in RH8,9 & FC2, I never had to deal with the dependency mess. But I guess something is missing now...
What is missing here? Is there a definitive place for these 'codecs'? (apt-get | yum have spoiled me) Why should I use one codec over another? (I really know so little about all this multimedia stuff!)
PS - I _did_ google extensively and search this forum; please excuse if this is a trite post.

Job 'Transcoding video - title #1, pass 1' failed.
Just get Synaptic and look them all up. You might also wanna add Dag Wieers' repository.
I was a FC3 user for a long time, now I'm on Kubuntu. Works great except for two minor issues. I can't get Transcode and mplayer installed which makes me unable to rip DVDs, and my GFX card causes random crashes from time to time. I'm still glad I switched from Slowdora... :P
Oh, and tip when transcoding: Always use XviD compression and AC3 or Ogg Vorbis audio. Gives excellent quality.
