Need help- trouble installing Avifile-0.7-0.7.34

I am runniing Mandrake 10 (Community) in a Toshiba A10 Laptop and using the latest Gnome desktop as the graphical interface. I want to install drip to rip DVDs and I need to install Avifile in order to install drip. I downloaded the latest version Avifile0.7.39.rpm but when I install it I got:

unsatisfactory libaviplay-0.7.so.0

So I downloaded the source and when ahead and compiled it and install it with the command:

make -j 2 install

At the end of the processing I get the following:

avm_output.cpp:154: error: withing this context
make [2]: *** [avm_output.lo] Error 1

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong or if I am missing some other dependancy. I want to install Drip and I noticed the problem after I tried to install Drip. I went to configure it and I got the following message:

Checkng for gnome-config ...no
checking for gnomeConfig.sh file in /usr/local/lib... not found
configure: error: Could not find the gnome Config file that is generated by gnome-libs install
missing gnome.Config

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong

Sorry frankydukes,
I googled around and couldn't find an answer.
I use avifile-0.7-0.7.38. It installed fine but Drip may or may not
work with this version.
If things get too bad there are other transcoders around that use
other frontends besides Drip.
DVDRip uses Transcode, and AcidRip uses Mencoder.

I will try something else

I'll try to delete AVIFILE 0.7.38 and do a fresh install with AVIFILE 0.7.34 and see what happens.

Thanks for the reply

something else

I tried to intall AVI 0.7.34 but now I get anther error, different from before:

avm_output.cpp: 154 error within this context
make [2]*** [avm_output.lo error 1]

and so on,
Has anybody experienced it and know of a solution??
I googled around and found lots of instances were this happened to other people but no solutions, at least none that I understood.

Franky
