Need help setting up Icecast!

I am trying to set up Icecast with Liveice to stream live audio. I installed Icecast from source and it seems to start up and run ok. Well liveice did not come in the package with icecast so I had to down load it separatly. Well I untared the liveice package and ran ./configure on it and all is ok. Then I run make, it seems to compile but when I run make install I get an error 127 it seems to run ./mkdir and says that command no found.

I looked at some info on installing liveice and it pretty much looked like all I have to do is configure it and then run make and don't have to bother with make install. I did that.

I launch Icecast and it runs, I then launch liveice and it starts up and gives me output up to the line that reads:

connection successful: forking process

and just sits there afterwards. From what I read it seems that Liveice should give me more output after that line like:

opening pipe! . . .

and etc. When I check the screen that Icecast is running on it shows that livecast connected but after a few minutes Icecast kicks the connection due to inactivity.

At this point I am stumped! I have no idea why liveice doesn't keep going with the connection. Do I just have bad versions of Icecast or Liveice or both. The ones I have are Icecast 1.3.12 and liveice is the latest one they have on their site.

PLease, Please, Please! Someone help me out! I am going nuts trying to get the thing to work!

Thanks in advance! Leo.

Don't use liveice. It's no good. Try something else (there are plenty of alternatives on their web site). If you read their docs carefully, they say it themselves, that liveice is outdated and crappy.

Thanks!

I did look on their site and downloaded Dark Ice. It seems to be able to stream live audio directly from the sound card input straight to the icecast server, from what I have read about it.

I haven't installed it yet, but am planning on doing so in a few hours.

Has anyone had any experience with either dak ice or liveice and which one performs better? Any and all input would be very much appreciated! Thanks again!!!

Leo.

Got Darkice installed and working!

Awesome! I have installed Darkice and its working good!

I have a few questions now that I hope someone can answer.

1. How many sound cards can I install on one machine and be able to use their line inputs for incoming audio with Darkice.

2. How can I set my broadcasting of the audio to multicast, broadcast and unicast. (I want to be able to test the bandwidth vs compatibility of each method).

Any comments and/or links to subjects that can lead me to the answer would be much appreciated!

Thanks a lot!

Leo.
