Need help running Win2k with vmware

I've got the 30 trial of vmware which installed great when I set up Win2k it just doesn't work. it says no os found. Could it not be finding win because its not on the hard drive linux is on? (win on hda and lin on hdb? if so how would I tell it that on the virtual maching setup i did both typical and custom and didn't see any options to tell it that. any help would be great.
