I am having a problem with intalling either Mandrake 8.2 or Slackware 8.1. Mandrake reboots after I start setup. Slackware reboots or freezes at defferent points, but I have never got past the "Install Packages". I have tried "dmesg" to see what might be wrong, but while I am looking for the problem it reboots itself.
I am running:
Abit BE6 mobo
128 MB RAM
500 MHz
Western Digital 40 GB HD w/2 partitions for Windoze 98SE
Quantum 6.5 GB HD w/4 partitions for Linux
both cabled together on HPT366 controller
2 CD-ROMs on IDE channel cabled together
I think it may be hardware the way its acting. I have checked my CPU for 12 hours with Hot CPU Tester Pro 3 and found nothing wrong and run memt86 and memory checks out ok. Also used Norton Disk Doctor to check drives, still nothing.
I have tried installing with drives on the Primary IDE channel thinking maybe HPT366 controller was the problem, same thing.
Windoze runs fine and reports no problems in Device Manager.
HELP!!!
