Need help on adept package manager
I'm running Kubuntu and I want to be able to specify that specific packages never install regardless of an update, upgrade or manual installation using the repositories.
I could do this under Fedora and Red hat in the yum repositories,
I'm looking for a way to do this under ubuntu.
Example.
I don't want package X installed for any reason.
I try to install package Y, but package Y has package X as a dependency. Since I have prohibited X from installing, Y should fail to install.
Thanks in advance
Gerald

You must do it manually for adept (see what it is going to install each time).
See the apt-get tutorials for more control.
Best

Look into using apt pin. You can tell the system to stick at a particular version of a file and to never up or downgrade it. You'll need to remember to change it if you ever do need to upgrade though.

Thanks for the responses, I will check the guides ad manuals in more detail.
Perhaps there is some hidden feature, and perhaps this could be a recommended future enhancement for apt-get
Thanks
