Need help installing firefox 0.8
Hello linux community. I am a newbie to linux, and am atempting to learn more about it every day. Today i managed, through much hard work, to get my linux laptop on the internet, now i want to surf that net. But i am plagued by popups and i want them to STOP. So i attemped to download and install firefox 0.8 and i do not understand how to install it in linux. If someone could e-mail me to just tell me, that would be great.

well i think its a tar.gz file so first all you do is ..
--> NOTE <-- where i type filename replace it with the correct name of your file and directorys .... tar -zxvf filename.tar.gz cd filename this will be the extracted folder from the above (should be just named firefox).... ./firefox to run it ... |
I just double-clicked on the downloaded file in KDE and it uncompressed the file for me. I then dragged the folder that it uncompressed to a folder where I keep all of my installed apps (/opt).
Also, try downloading this version of Firefox ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.or...tk2+xft.tar.gz I was using the non-gtk2-xft version of Firefox and it made webpage fonts look like crap. Good luck! |
