need help i m new user of linux


Dear fellows i have installed RHEL 5 and decided to work on it.
but i could not find its softwares and when i download a software and try to install it there is error if resolve missing dependencies. what are the dependices.and how can i resolve it. and tell me site where can i download linux softwares

Are you subscribed to the Red Hat Network? If so, you need to update the system first.
As root you can issue:

yum update
If not, you could change your repositories to CentOS.

One of the very first tools to learn is the Package Manager. In the menus, you will find an entry which is something like "Install software" or "Add/remove Programs" As already suggested, RHEL is a paid distribution, so you have to have a licensed copy to use this feature.

CentOS is a (legal) free clone of RHEL.

For other versions of Linux, take a look at http://distrowatch.com
