The organization that came to me has an old novell server their wanting to replace. They use it to have people logon and have their own directory on the network. What software do have to use to create this same effect so when they logon they will have their own directory. I was wanting to use Red Hat 9.........but any help or suggestions would be nice.

You probably want to use Samba (http://www.samba.org/).

You may also want to use mySQL if they need a database etc.

What are the clients will use? If it's Linux, you need to configure the system.
If Windows, you'll need to configure samba to simulate domain controller and mount home directory at server...
