Need a video editor, Is this one I found good or I should try other? How to install?
Hello everyone!
I'm new to Linux... Installed Mandriva this week in my machine and I need some video editor... On windows I usually edited them in Nero Vision. I basically need some program that ables me to create photography DVD videos with effects between images, a background music and a interactive but simple menu to choose scenes... Also I always need to download files from youtube, and to record then into DVD discs to be seen on standard DVD players...
I searched the web and found out one called cinelerra, it's available for download here: http://heroinewarrior.com/download.php3
But only the source code is available, how can I install the binary program on my machine running mandriva linux, will I have to compile it?
Anyway, if there is any other program that can do this job, I'd be glad to know...
Sorry for my lack of experience, and thanks in advance!
For downloading videos on utube, look at the DownloadHelper add on for Firefox. It will even use Mencoder or ffmpeg to convert the flash files to a format you want which can be ntsc dvd mpeg2 or pal dvd mpeg2.

Thanks a lot, jschiwal. I'm already downloading some videos in avi format. I just checked a box to automatically convert downloaded files into avi.
Now I'd like some tool for recording them into a DVD disc... I'd also like, if possible in Linux, to create a menu to choose what video to watch... Can these tools "Mensoder" Or "ffmpeg" do this work?
Any help would be welcome!
Thanks!
The 3 I know of are Cinelerra, MainActor (which costs) and Kino. Cinelerra comes with Dynebolic, everything ready to go. Now I *dont* know which one will let you make video DVDs - I'd think this would be in whatever writing software, not necessarily the video editor, but well, it wouldnt hurt either Try those 3, tell us what happened.
Oh and there used to be one called Lives which came with *previous* versions of Dynebolic but now it's gone and I dont know how far the original project has gone.
