ndiswrapper install and kernel headers

i've spent days with bcm*fwcutter and finally gave up on that. i'm trying to use ndiswrapper. the installation documentation says that

Quote:
You need a recent kernel at, least 2.6.6 or 2.4.26, with kernel headers. Make sure that /lib/modules/VERSION/build is a link to the kernel source, where VERSION is the version of the kernel you are running; this should be setup automatically by distribution package. If this path is not valid, kernel modules can’t be compiled.
and

Quote:
The command
ls /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build
should have at least 'include' directory and '.config' file.
when i use the command the output is

Quote:
Module.symvers
i tried 'make' anyway. the output:

Quote:
make -C driver
make[1]: Entering directory `/tmp/ndiswrapper-1.44/driver'
Can't find kernel build files in /lib/modules/2.6.18.8-0.3-default/build;
give the path to kernel build directory with
KBUILD=<path> argument to make
make[1]: *** [prereq_check] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/tmp/ndiswrapper-1.44/driver'
make: *** [all] Error 2
so, anyway, i guess i need to come up with kernel headers. how do i do this? how do i set up the link to lib/module... ? i don't know what a header is or what a module is. i'm still pretty new to most of this.

Usually there is a package in your distro repositories that are the header files for your current kernel. It looks like you're using openSuse, so I'd poke around the packages available in Yast...
