ncmpc/ncmpcpp over network [changed into: gnump3d clients]

I've been using mpd + ncmpc (and recently ncmpcpp) for some time now. It's a brilliant piece of software. I usually play music that is on my desktop (mpd server) using ncmpc as a client from my laptop. It's all fine, but is it at all possible with mpd/ncmpc to stream the sound so that it would come out from the speakers on my laptop? I'd be so convenient to be able to play my music collection wherever I go with my laptop.

thanks

OK, you can't do it. MPD does not stream data. I've found gnump3d which is quite good. I like its web client. It lets you browse, play recursively, create custom playlists, etc. I can use VLC or mplayer as clients as well. The problem is that they can only play specific files, eg http://hostname:portnumber/music/jazz/album1/tune1.mp3.
Is it possible to browse the collection using VLC or mplayer or play files recursively?

Not true, you can do it with MPD, assuming you have version 0.15 or later. Http streaming is built in.

Never used gnump3d I'm afraid.

Thanks. I'll play with it.
