native kde progs (konqueror, kopete etc) are unable to connect to internet

Hi!

I have a weired problem. When I'm using wlan, I am able to use only non-kde programs. That is, for example Firefox and aMSN work perfectly. Also command line tools are ok (apt-get, links etc). But when I try using konqueror or kopete they seem to be unable to connect to internet at all. Konqueror gives me "Cannot connect to server"-errors. Kopete just refuses to logon at all...

So is there something that needs to be changed in /etc/resolv.conf or something? (though to me it seems perfectly valid)

Any other advice, anyone?

Thanks in advance

If Firefox and other internet programs work, and KDE apps do not, I would lead me to believe there is somthing wrong with your KDE installation. Have you ever done any updating to KDE since installation?

Has Konqueror or Kopete ever worked?

Do you use a proxy? If yes, compare your settings in Firefox to Konqueror.

I would not thing /etc/resolv.conf has anything to do with the problem, since Firefox and other internet programs work.

Just some thoughts. Hopfully someone else has some good ideas.

Yup, everything works perfectly when I use cabled connection. But as soon as I switch to wlan, Konqueror stops recognizing the connection. Rebooting does not help.

When it comes to updating, I do it regularly, right now I have KDE version 3.5.4.

Nope, no proxy...

Strange indeed, isn't it?

After re-reading your posts, I'm now wondering if this has something to do with your router (wap) configuration.

Would you connect 1st with the wired connection and post the results of /sbin/ipconfig and then repeat the process but connect with wlan and post the results.

I'm curious to see if you have the same IP address through the two connections. It may help also if you run 'netstat -r' for both connections and post them. This dumps the routing table.

Ehh... Well, I am afraid that that is not possible. Right now I am using wlan at the university (WPA encrypted, if that matters). What I meant with connecting through a cable was that at home I have only a cabled connection, which works perfectly for ALL programs, unlike the wireless connection.

You can run those commands at each location, it does not affect the router at either location; when you have a chance to....
