Red face NAGIOS: Name or service not known output returned for custom developed service status

I am very green working with Unix and Nagios.

I am trying to monitor the status of custom developed software services. I have tried using ""; _ and *.exe on the command line and in the *.cfg files. Example: /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_nt -H mdhskofax2 -p 1248 -v SERVICESTATE -d SHOWALL -l Kfxpdf.exe -t 20. All I get from a command line output or the nagios.log file is name or service not known and could not fetch information from server. I have read through many articles on various blog sites but nothing is assisting me in figuring this out.

Thank you!

Moved: This thread is more suitable in the Linux Software forum and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

Did you:
- read the NAGIOS documentation for the "check_nt" service?
- read the "check_nt" file contents?
- install NRPE or NSClient on the remote host?
- test remote host with a "simple" check like './check_nt -H remotehost -p remoteport -v UPTIME'?

* Should you prefix the binary with the full remote path if you're checking a file and not a service?

Red face Green Newbie with Linux and Nagios

I
- read the NAGIOS documentation for the "check_nt" service.
- read the "check_nt" file contents.
- installed NSClient on the remote host.
- test remote host with a "simple" check like './check_nt -H remotehost -p remoteport -v UPTIME' - Results CRITICAL - socket timeout after 10 seconds.

* Should you prefix the binary with the full remote path if you're checking a file and not a service. I am checking a service and have used the syntax with the full remote path.

Thanks.
