Haven't used Yaps but it likely requires you to edit a configuration file that specifies where pages to fido.ca should be directed. (Typically a modem number.) To use SMS utilities like Yaps you often have to subscribe to the Pager/Mobile company's SMS service.
Instead of using SMS utilities however you can simply send an email to many devices. e.g. an email sent <phonenumber>@mmode.com would send a text message to the cell phone with <phonenumber> on the old AT&T cellular service.
For our Nagios setup we do the email method - just setup the email in contacts.cfg as if it were a regular mail box. So for many things we just email our Exchange accounts but for critical things we want to be paged about we email the phone instead. This means you don't have to subscribe to SMS which usually costs big bucks.
