MythTV install on suse 9.1

I downloaded the zip and unzipped it on the desktop.

Theres a configure shell script in the maind folder, tried running it but it loads a blank konquerer window. I can't figure out how to install this.

I am very new to linux :)

I read it. it lists some steps for debian/redhat/fedora/mandrake, and nothing for suse.

Looking around here I got to the konsole and typed "./configure" and got some errors.

now I know I need to install:

mysql
gcc
freetype2 devel
Xfree86 devel
qt devel
lame

well now thats a nice list LOL

You can install MythTV on SuSE 9.1. YaST is the SuSE system management application. You should find it in your start menu under system, or "sudo /sbin/yast" at a shell prompt.

However, not all the packages you need are available on the SuSE CD's. I think the Anandtech article gives some pointers to where to find the other stuff. I'd have to look at my system to try to figure out what I got and where I got it from.

There are some things (MythMusic) that won't work unless you install a different version of QT. You can find some information on the web on how to do this without replacing the system version of QT.

The basic instructions for compiling and building are the same for Suse as any of the other systems. i.e. ./configure, qmake, followed by make.

You can also find some RPM's compiled for Suse 9.1, although I didn't try this myself.

See the link below in my sig for adding the packman repository to YaST. I contains a lot of software that is left out of the distro but really should be there. It will make finding the packages you need much easier, and if you change the 9.1 to 9.2 there is a repository on packman for 9.2 as well.
