i have mandrake 10.1 official installed. Im having problems with mysql 4.1.16
evrything is running, my db's are functionnal, my problem is at the coinfiguration of sql.
i was using phpmyadmin to access the dbs, but then at the bottom i get the "using root with no password" warning. So i go and set a password for root, but then it doesnt work, remove the password and it does work.
Anyhow, i decided to create a new user with complete privileges and password. Using http auth in config.inc.php, i cant log in, but i can if i dont put a password! but privileges dont work
Basicaly, i want to be able to not use root, and create my user so they can access the dbs because as we speak, the are running root with no pass under the dbs which i dont like, but had no choice because the users created for them with the privileges dont work...
there's nothing wrong with creating users with root or doing administrative stuff as root. Just don't do everything as root. As far as your problem goes, what command did you use to set a root password for mysql?
and after setting the password, did you flush privileges?
thansk for the answer, as for the commmande i did was:
mysqladmin -u root password 'mypass'
and yes i did flush proivileges
as far as it goes for the users, the thing is that if i try to login a user with the password, it doesnt work, the only to log him in is with no password, but then again, he has no privileges, which is useless...
