Question MySQL Problem

I'm trying to completely uninstall mysql from source. but whenever i reinstal MySQL the databases seem to still be there. I'm trying to get MySQL up so I can run Snort. What is the right way to completely uninstall MySQL so all databases that were created with MySQL from an earlier install leave as well so I can start MySQL from scratch again. This all from souce thank you.

You can delete /var/lib/mysql entirely. That would get rid of all your exisiting databases.
