ok i have gone through everything, i mean everything i could. i have tryed starting with the files, etc. everything i could think of. i have read everything on this board. i have worked for the past few days on trying to get it up. im just totaly lost. when i do "ps axf" it says safe_mysqld is running, but then when i try to connect to it through the mysql app i just get "ERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysql/mysql.sock' (111)" not sure what i should do about this. it shows that their is a mysql.sock file there, just doesnt run...and then some times it says i need one in /tmp/mysql.sock but there isnt one there. what do you guys think?

do a chkconfig --list and make sure the mysqld is running

edit: I had a simular problem and it turned out it accually was not running

well i dont know how to do that. and yes, im new to linux somewhat. but i have gotten it to work before. but it just doesnt like me this time :-/ i followed every thing correctly.
