Unhappy MySQL in slackware 9.1




Slackware 9.1, full instalation.

email, web and mysql server activated at finish.

At first until now, always the same error:

root@hostname:/# mysql
ERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
when system boots, mysql starts... but at first login in runlevel 3 i get the message:

Mysql Ended.

I 've been reading many hours, many procedures, but i can't start MySQL server.

I'm desperate.

what can i doing bad?

Many hours later...


(as root)
su - mysql
mysql_install_db
exit
chown -R mysql.mysql /var/lib/mysql
mysqld_safe
mysql


wow !!! It works at least.
