mysql and connecting from php on apache with moregroupware

*also posted on newbie form mistakenly*

I am trying to configure moregroupware on apache. When it tries to connect to the mysql database from the browser, I get a fatal error saying, "call to undefined function mysql_connect() in /var/www/html/moregroupware/adodb/drivers/adodb-mysql.inc.php on line 237.
I have tried installing php-mysql
thanks for any help you can give would be great.

If php doesn't recognize the function mysql_connect() it means that php-mysql isn't installed at all. What do you mean by "I have tried installing php-mysql"?
