MySQL 4.1.11 don't start after successful installation under FedoraCore3
Hi all!
I have Fedora Core 3 installed, I remove MySQL 3.23 and install MySQL 4.1.11 with these commands:
in packages installation wizard I remove MySQL (3.23), then
I downloaded MySQL 4.1.11 and in the shell I typed:
rpm -Uvh MySQL-server-4.1.11-0.i386.rpm MySQL-client-4.1.11-0.i386.rpm MySQL-devel-4.1.11-0.i386.rpm MySQL-shared-4.1.11-0.i386.rpm
but an sad message destroyed my humor:
Starting MySQL................................... [FAILED]
What does it mean??
I found with "tail -20 /var/log/mysqld.log":
050504 11:47:13 [Note] /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld: Shutdown complete
050504 11:47:13 mysqld ended
050504 11:47:17 mysqld started
050504 11:47:17 [ERROR] Can't start server: Bind on TCP/IP port: Address already in use
050504 11:47:17 [ERROR] Do you already have another mysqld server running on port: 3306 ?
050504 11:47:17 [ERROR] Aborting
050504 11:47:17 [Note] /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld: Shutdown complete
050504 11:47:17 mysqld ended
050504 12:29:46 /usr/libexec/mysqld: Normal shutdown
050504 12:29:46 /usr/libexec/mysqld: Shutdown Complete
050504 12:29:46 mysqld ended
What does "Address already in use" when "telnet localhost 3306" responds:
Trying 127.0.0.1...
telnet: connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused
This means that the port is free...? yes? Is for this reason that MySQL don't start??
I found at www .whoopis . com / howtos / php5-mysql4-FC3-rpm.html that a solution should be remove mysql-data directory.... but it still don't work.
I don't know where I have to shoot my head....
If anyone have an idea... tell me his adventure or thinks....
bye,
cloud
