My USB keyboard and mouse no work in kernel 2.6+ (Debian)

First of all, I installed my Debian distro from the Sarge Net Install CD. I could not install kernel 2.6 right off because if I told the installer to use 2.6 my keyboard and mouse would not work (they are both USB). So I installed using 2.4, knowing I could upgrade later. So, I downloaded the 2.6.7 source and copied the config file from my 2.4, then used make oldconfig so to make sure that my needed drivers would be included. BUT when I booted to the new nernel I got to the login screen and my mouse and keyboard did not work... Nadda...

If you need any more information, ask! and thanks for your help! (as usual :P)

Hope the followed be of some help, although it's from a Chinese forum and the issue concerned is for RH. I have no idea about if there's some differences between RH & Debian.
Anyway, go and ransack the English information in it.
