Mutt and charsets

I'm using Mutt 1.4.1i and I'm talking about settings in my .muttrc.

When I change my set charset from "iso-8859-1" to "iso-8859-1:utf-8" I can display all mails correctly, but then I seem to send messages with "iso-8859-1:utf-8". I want to send mails with "iso-8859-1", and set send_charset seems to make no difference. What shall a person do?
