mutt always tries to open one user mailbox

Running Debian Woody, Exim4

was just reconfiguring exim on a new machine. When i try to open mutt, it would say mailbox doesnt exit /var/mail/user1.

So I sent myself an email and it created the file. But now when I try to open mutt from another user, lets say user2, it still tries to open /var/mail/user1. I can open the correct one if I specify the correct file in the command line, but I dont know where i can configure that it always opens the users mail file by default. There are no muttrc files.

How can I correct this, and how can I make the mailbox creation automatic when i issue a adduser?

Thanks
