music problem
 
I have redhat 8 and i'm trying to play music with it.I can play midi fine but i tried every program to play mp3's and wav's but no sound ever came out.Is it something i'm doing wrong or do i need a special program that didnt come with the redhat cd?

Yeah - search the forum or the Red Hat site and you'll find tons of stuff about Red Hat not supporting mp3s.

if you are using XMMS or something, you gotta get the codecs for it.... i believe you can get the from XMMS.org

or you can use apt-rpm
 
You can get it from here.

Apt-rpm - http://apt-rpm.tuxfamily.org/


Once installed, as root type:


apt-get install xmms-mp3
This will download and install the codec for mp3.

If you don't have XMMS installed type this.
apt-get install xmms


You may want to also type apt-get dist-upgrade
this will check your RPM database and upgrade any programs that have newer versions available.
