Hi I have been using KAudioCreator to rip files from my cds. They are fine as wav files to rip for quality etc but I have loads in directories and sub directories by name and need to turn them into ogg files or mp3s. I know this is lossy in format but what is the difference between ogg and mp3 files??

Also what shall I use to change the wav to mp3 files - I have tried grip but am after a point and click app.

thanks guys

The difference between ogg and mp3 is the license,
in the first place ... mp3 is copyrighted by the Frauenhofer
institute in Nuernberg, ogg is gpl'ed... the "quality" of
the encoding (lossyness) is depending on the settings
you choose ... you can create either with very high
bit-rates ...

And it doesn't get much more "point & click" than
grip for all I know :} ... but have a look at
http://freshmeat.net and search for "ogg encode"
and "mp3 encode" ... maybe you find something
more to your liking...

Cheers,
Tink

grip is a point and click app, it can't get any point and clickier than that, that I know of.

You've also brought this topic up already here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=138782

Lets try to keep existing discussions or topics in the same threads please.

Regards.

I haven't managed to get grip to a point and click screen! I have installed it but must have used the wrong config or something. The last post I wrote was asking for a gui you see I was misguided by what my computer o/p's

The mix up is when I type grip it doesnt launch a program!
it only gives some information about it at command line.

I assumed before that grip is an addon Command Line app to cdparanoia!

I will try to install it again

Maybe look at the output, see whether it's
actually an error message ;)

Maybe you are looking for something like K3B. Its a bit of a pain to install but its very nice for ripping and burning cds.
