Unhappy multiple language input in gnome

I have just installed a X terminal setup in a Language school (6 terminals) made up of old boxes all is going well but for one prob, the students need to have their own language input so they can write emails etc to family at home etc,
The sever is mandrake 10 running gnome desktop, Ive tried "keyboard layout switcher applet"
but can't get any but en (default)input to work, please can someone steer me in the right direction, mybe suggest some other software :-)
Thanks in advance.

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
