Multiple LAN-radio-stations

Okay, here's the deal. I have a always-on RH9 server with all my mp3s on it. In my livingroom I have a XBox from which I can listen to streaming radio which is, of course, connected on my Hi-Fi set.
So, I made a few playlist-files with different genres of music.

My question; how (and with which programs) can I get these "radiostations" (broadcasting on different ports I assume) play the playlist only when there is a request for it?
So, not having a continious music stream while nobody listens (but asking resources from my server) but only when I zap through the channels?

I've tried a lot so far with shoutcast as my server and another program for the stream. Especially the (playlist)stream - which starts / stops - on demand (NOT on-demand stream like in "I wanna hear this song...")...

TIA,
Greg
