Question multiple instances of processes?

I have a slackware 10.0 box, which has been behaving strangely lately:
When I start the btdownloadcurses or overnet command line client and doing a ps, I can see multiple instances of the process in the process list. Each process has it's own unique pid, but otherwise they are identical. Starting one bt-client usually gives me 2 processes now, and overnet always starts 3 processes. At least the bt-client hasn't always been behaving like this, FAIK.
I have checked the md5sum of the files, and they are correct.
I have also done a full scan with clamav, which reports no infections.
It's funny, only these programs seem to start multiple copies of themselves. Other programs work just as they should (i.e. I can see only one instance of the program if I have started it only once).

Help, anyone?

I am not sure what btdownloadcurses and overnet command line client are. If they are ftp clients then I have the explanation. It is very common for ftp clients to run as multiple processes because this speeds up the download somewhat.

Thanks, jailbait, for the quick reply.
I have been investigating this for a while now, and come to the conclusion I'm not the only one getting 3 processes when starting overnet.
However, I'm almost sure the bittorrent client didn't behave like this earlier...
Anyone using btdownloadcurses, could enlighten me on this?

Thanks
